Sir John’s Public House
Dinner & Drink: Approx $30
Sir John’s Public house is a cozy Scottish pub located in the heart of historic downtown Kingston, just half a block north of Market Square. The historic building dates from the 1820s and was used by Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada’s first Prime Minister, as his law office from 1849 to 1860.
Inside visitors will find an original bust of Sir John A. Macdonald and a setting which reflects the early nineteenth-century origins of the building.
Expect to find traditional pub fare with some Scottish influence as well as contemporary casual dining options. The haggis fritters are a great choice for trying a traditional Scottish dish. The fish and chips are excellent, as is the turkey pot pie and Macdonald macaroni and cheese.
A good selection of local and imported wines and beers is in place, as is a great selection of Scottish whiskies, specialty drinks and martinis. It has been said that Sir John A. enjoyed a drink or two.
